Building a more just, inclusive, and equitable academic community
“Now more than ever, it is important to move toward a society of belonging, where no one is left to suffer outside of the circle of human concern.”
J. A. Powell & E. Toppin Jr.
Fundamental to building a just and sustainable world — that is informed by unbiased science — is to ensure that the individuals who engage with and lead academia reflect the diversity of people on this planet. In the LOC Lab, we are committed to a thriving lab environment whose foundation is based on justice, equity, and belonging, where all individuals are encouraged to bring their full selves to the table so that they can realize their authentic potential. Some of our DEIJ-related activities include reading and discussing literature that speaks to critical DEIJ issues, contributing to peer-reviewed DEIJ literature, and making space for difficult and transformative conversations.
